Pursuit Of Happiness

In my life, one of my major goals is being happy. I watch a lot of podcasts and YouTube videos to understand what would make me happy. However, I came up with an analogy about happiness: it’s not something external but rather a matter of perspective and current state.

Recently, I wanted to buy a watch, so I took on a small part-time job. Initially, it was tough and I was earning very little—only a hundred rupees. But it did make me feel happy and gave me a certain satisfaction. As the days went by, I unexpectedly got an opportunity where I made 5k in one day. I was thanking my lucky stars that day. You should have seen my face; it was glowing.

Now, if we observe both situations—having 100 rupees and having 5k rupees—both of them made me happy at the present moment. However, afterwards, if I received any offer below 500 rupees, it didn’t make me happy; I was just neutral. This is what I’ve realized:

Happiness depends on our saturation level, which keeps increasing or decreasing based on circumstances. So, if you want to seek more happiness, you may feel the need for higher situations than what you have today. Therefore, it’s never ideal to go searching for it. Instead, be content with what you have and avoid placing your feelings on external things like fame, power, and money.
